For research use only. Not for human, veterinary, or therapeutic use. Sold as a laboratory selection reagent. CAS 64-75-5. Used in molecular biology to select E. coli carrying tetracycline-resistance plasmids and as an inducer in Tet-On/Tet-Off expression systems.
Tetracycline Hydrochloride inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by preventing aminoacyl-tRNA from binding to the ribosome. It is used to select bacteria carrying tetracycline-resistance genes. A typical stock solution is 5 mg/ml in water. If dissolved in ethanol, the solution does not need to be sterilized. Magnesium ions block tetracycline, so use media without magnesium salts, such as LB medium, for selection. Potency minimum 900 µg/mg.

Tetracycline Hydrochloride is an antibiotic that inhibits protein synthesis (elongation) by preventing the binding of amino-tRNA to ribosome. Tetracycline is for use in cell culture applications.
The tetracycline powder is used to make a stock solution at 5mg/ml in water. The working concentration for stringent plasmids is 10µg/ml and 50µg/ml for relaxed plasmids.
If dissolved in ethanol, the antibiotic solution need not be sterilized.
Magnesium ions are antagonists of tetracycline. Use media without magnesium salts (e.g. LB medium) for the selection of bacteria resistant to tetracycline.
