Ultra Pure Water
For most things in life, water is water. When it comes to laboratory applications, however, that couldn’t be farther from the truth. The success of many molecular biology experiments depends on ultra pure water to prevent contamination. IBI Scientific carries an extensive line of nuclease free water to meet your lab needs.
What Is Ultra Pure Water?
The water purification industry recognizes four basic classifications of water purity. Ultra pure water is the highest purity level, with the least potential contaminants.
- Feed water. Also known as raw or potable water, feed water is the lowest purification level. Quality varies widely by source, and this type of water may contain dissolved ions, microorganisms, organic compounds , or minerals. Feed water is typically treated with depth filters and water softeners but still contains contaminants.
- Primary grade pure water. Known as Type 3 water, primary grade pure water goes through a carbon filtration and reverse osmosis process. This removes approximately 99% of feed water contaminants, yet impurities often remain.
- General laboratory grade water. Type 2 water, or general lab grade water, capitalizes upon reverse osmosis as well as ion exchange to remove dissolved ions from water. This grade of water is useful for general chemistry, buffer and media protection, and other basic laboratory applications.
- Ultra pure water. Type 1 water is the purest grade. Application of dual wavelength ultraviolet light damages genetic molecules in microorganisms, while an ultrafilter can remove particles and macromolecules. This yields nuclease free water, ensuring that DNase or RNase does not affect the quality of your experiments.
Types of Ultra Pure Water
The category “ultra pure” indicates that water has gone through a specialty processing pipeline to remove impurities. However, there are different types of ultrapure water. What you choose will depend on your specific laboratory applications.
IBI Scientific carries PCR water, which undergoes continuous deionization, reverse osmosis, UV treatment 0.1 𝛍M filtration, and steam sterilization. This leaves water with only a 1 in 1 million chance of a living organism remaining. Additionally, this endotoxin free water limits endotoxins to <0.1 EU/mL. PCR water is optimal for use in PCR, RT-PCR, modifying enzyme assays, transfection, restriction enzyme assays, cloning, and other molecular biology procedures.
We are also a leading manufacturer of DEPC water. With DEPC water, the priority is to eliminate RNase activity that could contaminate molecular biology procedures. Treatment with DEPC inactivates RNase; after this treatment, water is autoclaved to ensure no DEPC treatment byproducts remain. The result is exceptionally pure nuclease free water that is optimized for RNA assays.
Available in sizes ranging from 125 milliliters to 55-gallon drums, IBI Scientific is guaranteed to have an ultra pure water solution for your laboratory.
Why IBI Scientific Is a Leading Manufacturer of Nuclease Free Water
IBI Scientific is an ISO 9001:2015 certified manufacturer of Life Science Research Products, including ultrapure water. When choosing water or reagents for laboratory use, only choose manufacturers with this ISO certification. This demonstrates that IBI meets the most stringent criteria for our research products, ensuring that your molecular biology procedures can proceed free of contamination or artifact.
Furthermore, all IBI pure water products are packaged in virgin, medical grade, non-leaching polycarbonate bottles. We’re the only manufacturer to use this packaging, which allows you to re-autoclave the water IN the bottle should its sterility become compromised. Plus, bottles are 100% re-usable and recyclable, reducing your lab’s carbon footprint.
