IBI provides redistilled crystalline phenol for use in nucleic acid purification.

Allow contents to equilibrate to room temperature before opening. Melt at temperatures no greater than 50°C, before saturating with a volume of water or buffer equal to the specified weight of phenol.

If buffer equilibration is desired, only amounts to be immediately used should be saturated. The rate of oxidation and formation of breakdown products increases as pH increases. Oxidized phenol appears as yellow or pink in color and should not be used.

For example, for 100 g of phenol, use 100 ml of water or buffer. To purify 400 µl of a sample, add 400 µl of saturated phenol.

Recommended Use

Example: For 100 gm of phenol use 100ml of water or buffer. To purify 400 μl of sample, add 400 μl of saturated phenol.

Storage
Store crystalline phenol at –20°C. After saturating, store at +4oC. Keep tightly sealed. IBI phenol is prepared from ultrapure phenol double-distilled under nitrogen. The product is packaged under nitrogen for maximum stability.
