Ammonium acetate is a salt commonly used in the precipitation of nucleic acids. The presence of 2.5 M NH4OAc in the precipitation reaction causes ionically bound contaminants to dissociate from the nucleic acids allowing pure samples to be recovered.

To make a 10 M Ammonium acetate stock solution, dissolve 385 g of ammonium acetate into 400 ml of ddi water. Adjust total volume to 500 ml with ddi water. Sterilize by filtration.
