The NEW SH-500XL is a 500v electrophoresis power supply designed for use in the separation of DNA and RNA, RFLP, DNA fragmentation, preparative PAGE electrophoresis, and protein separations. The SH-500XL has four outputs allowing the user to run four gel boxes, with the same run parameters, simultaneously.
The SH-500XL contains a 999 minute timer that can be set in 1 minute increments. A unique feature of the SH-500XL is it’s “Gel Saver” setting. Initiation of the Gel Saver option prior to the electrophoresis run will automatically apply a 1 volt charge to the gel after the electrophoresis run has completed to prevent the molecules from running backwards in the gel and creating a “smile”. This 1 V charge will remain until the user presses stop. Great for when you know you’ll be away from the lab.
The SH-500XL also has an automatic cross-over function that gives the user flexibility in choosing which run parameter is best suited for the application, applied voltage or amperage.

Trouble Shooting Issues *Power Supply “Fault” – this is due to an incomplete circuit. Somewhere there is a bad wire, loose wire, or loose connection. Make sure everything is completely plugged in. Otherwise, there is “leakage current.” This system produces X amount of current which leaves the power supply through one cord and that same amount of current must return to the power supply through the other cord. If there is less current returning, there is a leak somewhere, so the system shuts down/faults. *Low Current – May need to increase the voltage in order to overcome the Resistance/Impedance of the gel and buffer. (Only one parameter can be set at a time…the other will seek its level based on the amount of Impedance/Resistance.) However, this will increase heat. Therefore, ice cubes should be added or the re-circulation port should be used to cool the buffer, etc.
